Lifestyle Journal: Best Design 2023

(This is a news report in Chinese.  The following is the translation and excerpt.)

I often say, good design enhances life. Home products, whether it's a lamp, a table, a chair, a cup, a plate, a flower, a plant, or any object that combines functionality and aesthetics, if it can pay unexpected attention to detail (even in terms of environmental friendliness), allowing everyone to experience the healing elements of "truth, goodness, and beauty," then it is the best-designed product of immeasurable merit. Where can you find it? I pay attention to the winners of the four major international design awards worldwide every year because I want to enjoy life better.

The four major international design competitions—Germany's Red Dot Design Award, Germany's iF Design Award, the United States' IDEA Design Award, and Japan's G-Mark/Good Design Award—have always been the most eye-catching events in the design world. In recent years, Italy's A'Design International Design Award, Korea's K-Design Award, and the APIDA Asia-Pacific Interior Design Award have also received considerable attention. It can be said that everyone is paying attention to these products that change our lives, and many products are fantastically innovative, showing us that an elegant life is made up of good design pieces. Autumn happens to be the time when two major design awards—the German Red Dot Award and the Japanese G-Mark Award—announce the winners of 2023. As one of the global design trend indicators, the winning works of these awards are internationally recognized as outstanding designs. Just as the Red Dot jury describes based on the central theme "In search of good design and creativity," the winning works of these two major international design competitions are all excellent, and each one we introduce here is truly exciting!

CrossOver Scarf

CrossOver Scarf

Designed by Stanley Kwok, Stephen Ng, Regina Kwok (Hong Kong)

Produced by KnitWarm (Hong Kong).

Award Reason: Recognized by the Red Dot Award, this Hong Kong design is noteworthy for its achievement! Jury's Evaluation: “The combination of proven and new materials results in functional advantages such as breathability, flexibility and skin-friendliness” The scarf is compact, lightweight, and easy to carry. When worn, fold it vertically with the heating area positioned at the back of the neck. Two small pockets on the bottom left are designed for storing batteries and controls. Simply thread the right end of the scarf through the tunnel under the small pocket. Control the heat setting and duration via a smartphone app, blending practicality with style. While there may be fewer occasions to use it in Hong Kong, frequent travelers to Europe and America may find it worthwhile to purchase and support Hong Kong’s creative industry.
